Styled Gypsy Inspired Wedding

I love the gypsy culture. It really fascinated me younger, the music, the independence of the people… I’d watch every gypsy-related movie so when the photographers told me they got inspired by the movies of Kusturica for this shoot, I was intrigued and knew I’d love it. And I did! But above all, this works sends once again the message that weddings can be much simpler than what we imagine. Photography by Garance et Vanessa, a photographer duo out of France.

The word of the photographers.

We’d been thinking for long time ago about this inspiration shooting. We took our inspiration from the work of the photographer Ian McKell, who worked on the new gypsys, and the movies of Kusturica… We adapted it for a wedding inspiration, a little bit more clean and cute, but still rock n’roll !

The announcement of the publishing of the guide for young brides and grooms “Mariette” by Julie and Chris came right on time, so we decided to take the opportunity and do the shoot.

All of a sudden we had to find the dress, the couple, the wedding planners, the illustrators. Then came the place, the furnitures, the makeup artist, some friends available to pose too. And then, the horse, the horse wagon, the groom’s costume, the right colors of ribbons… Not to forget the guests costumes, the lace for the bride’s hair, and the vintage dressing table!

Then we had to find a date where everybody would be available, with a day more in case of storm, hurricane or tsunami.

We had to think about the catering, the straw ball and the pretty beer bottles…

And then finally, we crossed our fingers very strongly for the rain that was falling during the three days before the shoot to stop. And for the wind to stop too… And for the temperature to raise just a little bit!

In the end everything went so fast! The rain stopped, we became accustomed to the fresh wind of the Ardeche mountains… And every contributor was perfect, our friends were amazing, they really played the game. And the sun came out just in time for the golden hour!

To sum up, we almost got married this summer!

Federica + Jorge

An Italian-Spanish Wedding on Film wih the Groom’s Rock Band

Jorge and Federica’s wedding is special for many reasons. Amongst them, 1/ The photographer shot the whole wedding on film (except for some party shots, the two last ones of this post) and it turned out a.ma.zing; 2/ He used to play in a band with the groom and is one of his best friends; 3/ The groom’s band played AC/DC for the party. As if it wasn’t enough, the bride looks beautiful and there was plenty of little details and attentions for the guests. For the photographers interested in shooting weddings on film, you should read about the photographer’s experience at the end of the post, Marcos Sánchez!

The wedding took place the 20 of July in Finca Malpartida, a country house in the province of Toledo, Spain.

Name one thing you regret…

I don’t have any regret regarding the wedding. It was even better than how we expected to be, I wish it could have been longer!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

I am really happy because all our friends and family had a great time! We really enjoyed the ceremony, the dinner and the party. I am also proud because we took care of many details for the wedding, and the result was really nice.

Also, my husband Jorge plays drums in a rock band, so after dinner, they played a concert for all the guests. It was really cool :)

The word of the photographer.

It was a very special wedding for me in many ways. It was my first wedding shooting only film, and though I was confident about my skills, you don’t get to see the pictures until a couple weeks later, so used to digital cameras it’s a bit scary not to see what you’re doing. The pictures turned out amazing, so I’m thrilled about film! Also it was one of my best friend’s wedding, and even for someone like me who attends 20-30 weddings a year, it was a very emotional day. It’s so rewarding to see how your work means something to the people you’re photographing; I mean I don’t usually witness the first time the couples see the pictures, but this time I showed them the photos at my home and it was great. I’m very happy to have being part of that day with them.

Helena + Antonio

A Spanish Wedding with a Touch of Rock n’ Roll

Helena and Antonio used old vinyl records to design their invitations; the original covers were then hung on the day of their wedding, and the corresponding musics were played… What a great idea! Helena wore green wedding shoes and her fantastic dress was designed by herself and a bridesmaid. The overall idea of this wedding was simple, to have fun & one hell of a party! I wasn’t there, but from the beautiful pictures that document that day, I’d say mission accomplished! Photography by Megan Spelman of Bikini Birdie.

The wedding took place on June 8, 2013, at Antonio’s parents’ house, in Alicante, Spain.
We decided to have a handmade wedding because didn’t like traditional. We wanted to run away from the typical wedding things. We made all the decoration, but we didn’t want to be the only protagonists so we involved everybody in everything! A lot of friends helped us in the preparations. We also invited everybody to take part in the dance and we had a flash mob. A friend of mine made with me my bridal dress; what a amazing experience!
Our invitations consisted of a mini record (like a single), and we put a personalized cover and sticks. Nobody actually knew what her record was before the wedding (only few of our guests had a record player). At the wedding, we hung all the original covers on a wall with a question: “What is your record?”. And we put a record player to listen to all of them.

Name one thing you regret…

There wasn’t any regret. We can´t believe how perfect that day was. We aren’t wedding lovers and we thought about the wedding as a beautiful party… Being together for 14 years already, getting married didn’t look that important to us. But then, everybody showed us so much love… we are very grateful for that. And so that day, we were so in love also!… it really was an amazing day.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

We think the decoration was very beautiful and was made all for us :-). Actually, all the organization was done us and we are very proud of that. Everybody say to us how amazing they think the wedding was!
