Renata + Heron

A Wedding on a Preserved Island in Brazil

Fernando de Noronha is an Island in the North-East of Brazil, a place with an impressive wildlife that’s trying to be kept unspoilt: only local cars, no sunscreen allowed on the beach… I personally never went there but Marcio did, and he told me he even swam with Sea Turtles!
Ok, enough with the touristic digression; let’s talk weddings. Renata and Heron both love beaches and got married on this Island in May this year. I have to say that this little church with this wonderful natural backdrop is one of the most cute I’ve ever seen, and what a view from the diner terrasse! I hope this will give you a little reminder of your own holidays, that I guess for most of you are now over… Photography by Fábio Moro.

Deirdre + Boris

Outdoor Dutch Wedding – A Ceremony Between Two Apple Trees and a Mint Wedding Dress

A simple day in a beautiful backyard & a ceremony between two apple trees, this is what Deirdre and Boris’ wedding looked like. No tight schedule for these two – the band stayed for so long that they left too late for their next gig and the bride even said “I do” before her turn!… In other words, no frills for this wedding, but one memorable day for both the bride and groom and their guests! And oh, YES to mint wedding dresses! Photography by Jarg Woldhuis.

The wedding took place on 30 August 2013 at a B&B called Mollenvlied in the Dutch village Vaassen.

We wanted an outdoor wedding and Mollenvlied was perfect for it. It is a magical place in the woods only to be reached over a long sandy road. Because our wedding was outside, in the woods, we made up our own dress code, ‘forest chic’. People really struggled with that, had no idea. Of course, a lot of the ladies wore high heels against our advise. We kept checking the weather forecast every day for about a month, hoping and praying it would be sunny and lovely, and luckily, it was!! Everything worked in our favour that day, we couldn’t believe how lucky we were.

I was very, very nervous before the ceremony. Jarg had to keep telling me to breathe, I just forgot. He was really kind and thoughtful like that. We wrote our own vows and had an intimate ceremony between the apple trees. Because of my nerves I misunderstood and said I DO before my turn, oh well…

Name one thing you regret…

I really have no regrets at all about our wedding, with all its little flaws it was still such a perfectly wonderful day!
Our guests really loved our wedding as well. Some even said it was the best they had ever attended, including their own ;) Some of them sat by the fire until dawn.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

I’m most happy about the fact that this beautiful day reflected so perfectly who we are together and in relation to our family and friends. And of course, that it marks the beginning of a journey for me and my sweet, amazing husband.

Inês + António

Rainy Elopement in Portugal

Inês and António decided to have a very intimate wedding, precisely 10 years after their very first kiss! They organized a little ceremony for just the two of them at a beautiful cottage and had some afterwards snacks, around the theme of Nightmare Before Christmas. They had a very rainy day (maybe one of the most rainy weddings I’ve featured here!), but it didn’t stop them from having the ceremony outside, neither did it wipe the smiles off their faces! The wedding took place in Gêres, Portugal, on March 21, 2014. From the bride:

A little over ten years ago, two different people, who completed each other, met for the first time. It only took two dates and a lot of online talk for both of us to know that the person holding our hand would be very special. Ten years have passed but we still tenderly remember, every 21st of every month, what happened on the March 21, 2004. Ten years have passed, but it could have been only ten minutes, because everything seems brief, and we wish to spend at least another fifty Springs together.

The word of the photographer.

I’ve been a wedding photographer for about seven years, and one of my desires was to shoot a more intimate wedding, just with the bride and groom. This year we had the privilege to witness Inês and António’s wedding. The bride and groom travelled from Lisbon by themselves, into a cottage in Gerês, to get married. When we got there, everything was wonderfully set to the last detail. It was one of the most special weddings I had the opportunity to shoot. The rain wanted in on it too, but the bride and groom were brave enough to face it.
