Canadian Emerald Lake Wedding Photos

It’s been a while since I last posted something here in this section! I am happy to have a really nice session to show today, an after wedding photo shoot at the beautiful Emerald Lake in Canada. The pictures are stunning, they were taken by someone really dear to me—though we never actually met—whom I contacted in the early stages of existence of the blog and who’s been extremely supportive and kind ever since. No details, no DIY for this session, just the lesson, once again, that maybe backdrop & surroundings are the one detail you may wanna think of when looking for the perfect venue and place to get married. The word of the photographer.

What made this session special and unique was the timing of it. Heather and Alejandro had contacted me early in the year about shooting their wedding and at that point I was already booked for a wedding in the city I live in, Edmonton Alberta. Heather was interested in another option though, that if I was not able to shoot the wedding day could we do the wedding portraits a day or two after the ceremony. I personally loved the idea and after the Edmonton wedding I  I hopped in my truck and drove five hours to meet them for a day after session in the Rocky Mountains. Heather is originally from Canada and now lives in Northern California and Alejandro is originally from South America and getting married in the mountains was something that was a dream of theirs. They were married in Canmore and instead of shooting there we drove a little deeper into the mountains and spent the day shooting at Emerald lake, the Resort and then the small mountain town of Field. Late fall in Canada means that the weather can be truly anything and even though our day started with some heavy cloud and light rain we finished in the evening as the clouds opened up and some light sunset. We were also pretty lucky to have the elk photobomb a few shots as they traversed along the Kicking horse river.
It was a beautiful afternoon and I could not have been more pleased to be there.  Heather and Alejandro are beautiful people and very genuine and they remind me of why I love my career!

Simple Countryside Wedding in the Middle of Nowhere

Not much to pin today for those detail lovers, but quite a lot to think about! This couple (they happen to be photographers themselves) questioned every wedding tradition, separated the things that made sense or meant something to them from the others, so they would end up with a wedding that really correspond to them! They had their wedding in the middle of nowhere (which I love – please stop with municipal halls), I also love that there’s very few details and just the surrounding nature! Photography by Levi Tijerina.

The wedding took place at 10,000 feet outside of an aspen grove in the heart of the rocky mountains of Colorado on June 22, 2013. An 1.5 away from any civilization with no cell service! This is a little anecdote about the wedding, that I think every bride and groom to be should read!
Tyler and I aimed for authenticity. Weddings today seem to come with certain expectations- a check list of what to do and don’t do- but I feel like we’re often disconnected from the point of it all. We tried to look at every piece of the wedding and ask “What is the point of this? & how can we do it to ensure that that purpose shines through?” In other words, we wanted to reclaim what a wedding can be. Like the bouquet toss and cake cutting…I didn’t feel a need to have it, so we didn’t. When thinking about our ceremony- the purpose was to have all of our friends and family join into our commitment to one another, so we had them form a circle around us. These little changes were subtle at times, but it allowed us to reconnect to the magic and spiritual nature of the day.

Name one thing you regret…

I regret not having more time with friends and family. It felt like such a rush from the time that everyone arrived. I wish I would have planned a little more time to just go hike with my brothers or go out for coffee with my friends from out of state.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

I can’t personally be proud of this, but my bridesmaids surprised me with a tent in the middle of the aspen grove for me to put my dress on in. It was incredible! Nature is such a powerful aspect in my life, so to get ready for my wedding day in the middle of the grove was truly surreal.

The word of the photographer.

Beth and I have been friends since I first moved to Colorado–she’s a fellow photographer in the community and reached out to me early on. When she asked me to photograph he wedding, I was pretty surprised, and honored, and when she told me about the wedding her and Tyler was planning, I was very excited to be on board. Their wedding was entirely ‘them’ and fit them perfectly. All of their favorite people, celebrating in the Mountains in the middle of nowhere. It doesn’t’ get better than that. Much thanks to my friend Drew Willingham for jointing me for this wedding.

Breathtaking Venue in the Italian Mountains with a View on the Sea

The first time I published something from Stina, I said that she was my recent photographer crush. Well, this crush actually turned into a love story, that doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. Once again, I was preparing this post with a lump in my throat: every part of this wedding is amazing, every picture is perfect. Actually, venue makes a lot; I wouldn’t say that it’s the only thing that matters, but to me it’s really the soul of a wedding. Here, not only is there a breathtaking venue, but all the details and the setting are really perfect! And this dinner table… w.o.w. Photography: Stina Kase.

The wedding took place in August last year at the Amalfi coast in Italy. Everything was thought and realized by the bride herself, who wanted to mix rustic details and a modern setting. Well, it’s worked!

The word of the photographer.
For me this wedding was extraordinary – something really different. I was inspired by the breathtaking nature & all the small details at the wedding (I am a detail freak!).
In a way my dream came true – I could take pictures at such place!
