Deirdre + Boris

Outdoor Dutch Wedding – A Ceremony Between Two Apple Trees and a Mint Wedding Dress

A simple day in a beautiful backyard & a ceremony between two apple trees, this is what Deirdre and Boris’ wedding looked like. No tight schedule for these two – the band stayed for so long that they left too late for their next gig and the bride even said “I do” before her turn!… In other words, no frills for this wedding, but one memorable day for both the bride and groom and their guests! And oh, YES to mint wedding dresses! Photography by Jarg Woldhuis.

The wedding took place on 30 August 2013 at a B&B called Mollenvlied in the Dutch village Vaassen.

We wanted an outdoor wedding and Mollenvlied was perfect for it. It is a magical place in the woods only to be reached over a long sandy road. Because our wedding was outside, in the woods, we made up our own dress code, ‘forest chic’. People really struggled with that, had no idea. Of course, a lot of the ladies wore high heels against our advise. We kept checking the weather forecast every day for about a month, hoping and praying it would be sunny and lovely, and luckily, it was!! Everything worked in our favour that day, we couldn’t believe how lucky we were.

I was very, very nervous before the ceremony. Jarg had to keep telling me to breathe, I just forgot. He was really kind and thoughtful like that. We wrote our own vows and had an intimate ceremony between the apple trees. Because of my nerves I misunderstood and said I DO before my turn, oh well…

Name one thing you regret…

I really have no regrets at all about our wedding, with all its little flaws it was still such a perfectly wonderful day!
Our guests really loved our wedding as well. Some even said it was the best they had ever attended, including their own ;) Some of them sat by the fire until dawn.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

I’m most happy about the fact that this beautiful day reflected so perfectly who we are together and in relation to our family and friends. And of course, that it marks the beginning of a journey for me and my sweet, amazing husband.

Thaís + Filipe

An Emotional Surprise Wedding

Thaís and Filipe are Brazilian and about to experience a big change: they’re moving to Mexico. They are also in the middle of the organization of their wedding, a wedding that will take place on the beach in Tulum once they’re there. What they didn’t know is that another kind of wedding was planned in secret for them, on the day of their civil marriage in Brazil by the bride’s sisters. The whole idea was to give the opportunity to some of their friends who wouldn’t make it to Tulum to get a taste of what they were going to miss. I’ve always thought I’d kill the person who’d organize a surprise wedding for me—that’s because I’m kind of a control freak—, but I think their pictures made me change my mind. I mean, have you ever seen a bride that emotional? The photos were taken by Mariana Magno out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

So, surprise wedding, yes or no?

The word of the photographer.

As a photographer, I’ve had my share of emotions, but this wedding stands in my top 10 of the most emotional weddings ever.

At home, everything was taken care of by Thaís’ sisters; Thaís didn’t even know what she was going to wear! They gave them headphones and took them to the church, that was already decorated and full of people waiting for them. When they arrived, they recognized the place by its smell, but had no idea how beautiful everything was and how much friends were waiting to witness their love with them.

It was one memorable moment of joyful tears! Even I had to get it together so I wouldn’t sob! It was so good to be able to be there and capture so much love, to see so many open-hearted people, in a place that’s so special for the bride & groom. I was literally able to feel the love and affection in every detail.

Catarina + Antonio

Contemporary Wedding at a Hotel in Portugal

Catarina and Antonio got married in Lisbon, Portugal. They chose their venue to be a hotel that also took care of the catering. It’s a nice option for those looking for a place that’s already nice as is, although this couple decided to add some details of their own! Photography by Hugo Coelho out of Portugal.

The wedding happened on July 13, 2013. The ceremony was celebrated at the Santa Isabel Church and the cocktail and dinner were held in the Hotel da Estrela, Lisbon (Campo de Ourique).

The decoration of the tables was made by us. We kept a lot of glassware to decorate the tables, glass packages of fruit, etc, we picked a lot of stones from the beach and some old doors to put the names of the guests to indicate their seats.

Name on thing you regret…

The day passed very quickly. It was a lot of work and when the day was over we got the feeling that time had been running!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

My son Manuel was at the wedding and still talks about it. He is 3 years old.

We’re also happy that our most important friends and family members were there. We and some friends slept at the hotel and the day after we all had breakfast together.

The word of the photographer.

When I had the first meeting with them captivated me by the kindness and simplicity. They planned their marriage without formalities and full of little details. It gave me great pleasure to photograph each chapter of this great day.
