Naomi + Damian

An Intimate Dutch-Australian Wedding in France With Only 28 Guests!

Naomi and Damian had a very intimate wedding in France of only 28 guests, with family members & friends coming from The Netherlands and Australia. I love how simple they kept things (the groom made the cake on the wedding day and though it’s his “one thing I regret”, I still think it’s super awesome), and how fun they seem to have had – who said “party in a jacuzzi”? Photos by Ricardo Vieira.

Naomi’s family lives in the Netherlands, Damian’s family is from Australia. And these guys got married in France! The exact place the wedding took place at is called Villegailhenc; it’s a little village about a 10 minute drive from Carcassonne. They booked two locations, one for the cocktail and party (La Maison), and another one with more rooms for their families to stay for the night (Le Moulin). “In the end this was such a lucky shot!” says the bride, “because the owner of Le Moulin (Hellen) offered to be our wedding celebrant.” Here’s the story of how this couple met (and got engaged).

Damian and I met during a blind date actually in Amsterdam. An old colleague of mine asked me if I wanted to have a date with someone she knew. I was up for a fun night and thought: why not!!
He texted me first to ask if I was interested in going on a date with him and also called to ask me out.
He was very old fashioned about it, which made me very curious to say the least. We had a date on Friday night in a great African restaurant, on Sunday we met up again for a beach walk (in Noordwijk where I live) and have been dating since than..
He really kept being old fashioned ever since. He asked my dad if he could have my hand in marriage, up to two times !

Name one thing you regret…

Naomi – I regret that I felt so responsible and stressed most of the time, which wasn’t necessary at all!
We had the best group of guests and each and everyone helped with decorations, flowers, food and drinks. It came together so perfect!
Damian – I regret it a bit that on our wedding day itself, I was in the kitchen making our own wedding cake with my brother. That day felt like it had a stressfull  beginning, which didn’t allow me to soak in all the great things that were happening and enjoying every bit of it.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

Damian and I both agree that we are so happy and thankful for our family and friends. They made our day such a special and unforgettable day. We had a small group of 28 people. It felt very intimate. And because everyone in this small group helped out, it came together perfectly. Even though a lot of people didn’t know each other yet, we had such great nights of drinking, eating and dancing together. Unforgettable.

Damian – I am very proud of how Naomi was able to organize our entire wedding (from finding the venue, checking it out beforehand, arranging flight tickets, rental cars for his family, etc). Without Naomi the day wouldn’t have been this great.

Naomi – I am very proud of us two, standing in front of the people we love. Telling each other how much we love each other. And making the day how we pictured our wedding would be.

Melissa + Jay

Fabulous Wedding at the Toronto Fermenting Cellar

I fell in love with Melissa and Jay’s wedding. The venue they found in Toronto is just perfect: a vaulted ceiling, rural stone work & wood trusses (see? you don’t necessarily need a barn); the atmosphere created with the lights in this place blew my mind; finally, this couple is both beautiful and fun – I also used the tag “hot” for the first time, I guess you’ll see why. I almost forgot to mention the fabulous pictures by Applehead Studio, the icing on the (wedding) cake. So, what do you say?

The wedding took place on October 18, 2013, at the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Here’s an anecdote of how the bride met one of her favourite singer on her wedding day.

We both love live music. One of Melissa’s favorite singer/songwriters forever has been Craig Cardiff. Since day one, she’s said that her wedding wish list item was to have him sing at the wedding. We made it work for the ceremony portion, and although she was ecstatic, she was a bit disappointed that she’d only get to hear him sing a few quick hazy moments walking down the aisle. Craig was gracious enough to work in cohorts with Jay to pay Melissa a surprise visit while she was getting ready on the wedding day. The photographers knew of the stunt and when Craig knocked on Melissa’s door, the images say it all – she was pretty shocked. Craig sat down and played a private concert for Melissa and her bridesmaids in her hotel room, playing some of her favourite songs. Craig’s special gesture has meant the world to both of us, and will forever be remembered as a very special part of our day and our relationship. We were lucky to then have our family and friends hear him welcome guests to the ceremony and sing Melissa down the aisle.

Name one thing you regret…

We had initially regretted that we did not get a videographer – until we saw our wedding photos. The fact that Applehead Studio managed to capture all of our important “moments” throughout the day truly blew us away. It is true what they say, “a photo is worth a thousand words.”

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

We couldn’t be more proud of our photos.  We think they tell the true picture of how beautiful our favourite day was. From the prep work to the beauty of the entire venue, and the party we had, our photos tell that story in the way wanted it too! Super proud that they show a true love story and people genuinely “getting after it!”
So many loved ones came from far away to share this day with us. The majority of people travelled from Nova Scotia and they went out of their way to join us and make our day very special.
We’re also proud we drank the venue out of rum. Don’t judge us – it’s a badge of honour.
Overall, we’re most proud of the fact we look back and say “we wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

Fun Retro Rock ‘n Roll Wedding in Berlin

Today’s wedding is a total treat. I know I used a lot of adjectives to describe it in the title but you’ll see they all needed to be used. Many many amazing shots, a super stylish couple, great car and motorcycles (and those scenes on the highway!)… And above all, it looks like everybody had so much fun at this retro rock ‘n roll wedding! A new fave. Photos by Katrin Dinkel – Frau Dinkel.

Name one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

The support from our families & friends, the great and warm dealing with some of our service companies and the casual and easy atmosphere due to the complete style of the wedding.
