Lacey + Logan

An Elopement in San Diego with a Nearly 9 Months Pregnant Bride

I think I don’t show enough elopements here. What a great way to get to the essence of what getting married means, have less to worry about and spend energy only caring about the main aspects of the day. And I guess, it also has its financial advantages for those of you on a budget. Lacey tells us more about their decision and experience below, and who knows, maybe their story will inspire you too! Lacey is, by the way, an extremely beautiful bride; she calls her bouquet and head piece “amazing”, and I can only agree – amongst the most beautiful I’ve seen! Photography by Yes, Dear. Studio.

Lacey and Logan’s elopement took place in San Diego, at Sunset Cliffs, facing the Ocean. Here’s the story, from the bride, of how they dropped the idea of having the usual wedding (the one with guests) and decided to elope instead.

What made my wedding day so special was the ease and simplicity. It was everything I ever wanted not to mention, drama free! Whenever we talked about our wedding it was, “Well we can’t do it there… so and so won’t be able to make it, or we can’t do it then because this is happening…” I realized those excuses had nothing to do with Logan and I and how silly it all was. We were expecting our beautiful baby boy and just decided to have a special day between the two of us before life as we knew it forever changed. I was in love with the idea! I had a month to put together my dream wedding. I had always envisioned a green wedding with absolutely no flowers and I achieved that with my amazing bouquet and head piece made of ferns, eucalyptus, ruscus, luecadendron, kale, and Mexican babies breath. The pins on my belt belonged from my grandmother and I added to them with vintage pins found at thrift stores. Our ceremony was held at Sunset Cliffs which is also were Logan and I had an incredible first date exploring caves and examining sea life.

Name one thing you regret…

My biggest fear with eloping was that I would regret something, so I made sure to do everything I felt was important personally. The only thing is that I would have loved to have a different dress.
It was a timing issue, the one I had my heart set on I was not able to find in a store and I was too nervous to order online because I was worried about fitting properly… I should’ve just had it made, it was a simple design, but I didn’t think of that till too late.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

My number one concern for eloping was documenting and capturing the day perfectly and Yes, Dear. Studio exceeded my expectations!

The word of the photographers.

While nearly nine months pregnant with their first child, Lacey & Logan decided to elope rather than waste any more time on the details of a big wedding . They chose the most beautiful location, Sunset Cliffs in San Diego,  to say “I do”. They had an intimate ceremony as the sun was setting, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was a moment full of sincerity and love. It was an amazing honor for us to experience something so pure and beautiful. These two have so much love for each other and their baby boy, Hutch. We spent nearly five hours capturing their special day in their favorite spots around San Diego, completely free from stress or pressure.

Thaís + Filipe

An Emotional Surprise Wedding

Thaís and Filipe are Brazilian and about to experience a big change: they’re moving to Mexico. They are also in the middle of the organization of their wedding, a wedding that will take place on the beach in Tulum once they’re there. What they didn’t know is that another kind of wedding was planned in secret for them, on the day of their civil marriage in Brazil by the bride’s sisters. The whole idea was to give the opportunity to some of their friends who wouldn’t make it to Tulum to get a taste of what they were going to miss. I’ve always thought I’d kill the person who’d organize a surprise wedding for me—that’s because I’m kind of a control freak—, but I think their pictures made me change my mind. I mean, have you ever seen a bride that emotional? The photos were taken by Mariana Magno out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

So, surprise wedding, yes or no?

The word of the photographer.

As a photographer, I’ve had my share of emotions, but this wedding stands in my top 10 of the most emotional weddings ever.

At home, everything was taken care of by Thaís’ sisters; Thaís didn’t even know what she was going to wear! They gave them headphones and took them to the church, that was already decorated and full of people waiting for them. When they arrived, they recognized the place by its smell, but had no idea how beautiful everything was and how much friends were waiting to witness their love with them.

It was one memorable moment of joyful tears! Even I had to get it together so I wouldn’t sob! It was so good to be able to be there and capture so much love, to see so many open-hearted people, in a place that’s so special for the bride & groom. I was literally able to feel the love and affection in every detail.

Federica + Jorge

An Italian-Spanish Wedding on Film wih the Groom’s Rock Band

Jorge and Federica’s wedding is special for many reasons. Amongst them, 1/ The photographer shot the whole wedding on film (except for some party shots, the two last ones of this post) and it turned out a.ma.zing; 2/ He used to play in a band with the groom and is one of his best friends; 3/ The groom’s band played AC/DC for the party. As if it wasn’t enough, the bride looks beautiful and there was plenty of little details and attentions for the guests. For the photographers interested in shooting weddings on film, you should read about the photographer’s experience at the end of the post, Marcos Sánchez!

The wedding took place the 20 of July in Finca Malpartida, a country house in the province of Toledo, Spain.

Name one thing you regret…

I don’t have any regret regarding the wedding. It was even better than how we expected to be, I wish it could have been longer!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

I am really happy because all our friends and family had a great time! We really enjoyed the ceremony, the dinner and the party. I am also proud because we took care of many details for the wedding, and the result was really nice.

Also, my husband Jorge plays drums in a rock band, so after dinner, they played a concert for all the guests. It was really cool :)

The word of the photographer.

It was a very special wedding for me in many ways. It was my first wedding shooting only film, and though I was confident about my skills, you don’t get to see the pictures until a couple weeks later, so used to digital cameras it’s a bit scary not to see what you’re doing. The pictures turned out amazing, so I’m thrilled about film! Also it was one of my best friend’s wedding, and even for someone like me who attends 20-30 weddings a year, it was a very emotional day. It’s so rewarding to see how your work means something to the people you’re photographing; I mean I don’t usually witness the first time the couples see the pictures, but this time I showed them the photos at my home and it was great. I’m very happy to have being part of that day with them.
