Jessica + Mark

Pop Colors, Balloons, Crepe Paper Flowers and Pom Poms for the Ceremony Exit

Jessica and Mark had a playful, colorful and fun wedding, full of DIY details and personal touches. They used crepe paper flowers and birds to create a nice ceremony setting, and their guests were throwing paper pom poms at them for the ceremony exit – what a great idea! I’m usually not a big fan of tents, but I have to say they did an amazing job decorating the place and the tables! And… there’s even a campfire! Well, I think you got it, I’m really excited to show you this wedding! Photography by Rhema Images Photography.

The wedding took place at the bride’s parents home in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, on September 14, almost exactly three years after the couple’s first date.

Our first date was Sept 15th, 2010. We clicked instantly and were together from that day forward. Almost exactly three years later Mark and I were exchanging vows. I knew for sure we would marry and evidently everyone else did too. My mother began working on favors, centerpieces and even invitation ideas a year before mark actually proposed. Lucky she did because it took almost a year and a half to handcraft every aspect of this colorful and whimsical celebration. Two other things added to the magic of the wedding. It was an outdoor ceremony and the weather was overcast the entire day. Miraculously right before I started to walk down the isle, the sun appeared. And exiting the ceremony had its own magic, for the guests threw pom poms instead of rice, filling the sky with colorful balls. We wanted the feeling at our wedding to be exactly like our relationship, easy going, spontaneous, colorful and sweet. Our wedding was just that.

Name one thing you regret…
This is an interesting question because we feel like the one thing we regret could also be what ended up making our wedding such a blast for all of our guests. We had many activities going on outside of the wedding tent, games, a beautiful photo booth, and a cozy fire surrounded by haystacks. No one felt they were restricted to any one area. This was a lot of fun but it made it difficult to get everyone under the wedding tent for events such as cake cutting and bouquet/garter toss. What we were missing was someone who could be in charge of organizing the events of the night a little more smoothly, a coordinator of sorts. Everyone was so busy having fun, certain details were neglected.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

Our wedding was definitely a visual masterpiece, all heart and handcrafted by the people who love us.  We couldn’t have been prouder of how everything looked from the arbor, centerpieces, chandeliers, hundreds of crepe paper flowers and amazing homemade wedding cake! The fact that everyone had a part in creating this made it unforgettably beautiful. Mark and I added to this by writing our own vows to one another and performing a choreographed first dance for our guests. We had a blast taking dance lessons the week before our wedding and we still hear comments on how fun our dance was.

Moving Australian Wedding at the Beach, in Yellow!

So much (and so many) emotions came up went I went through the pictures of Alana and Rob’s wedding! I was basically moved and amused at the same time, especially when first seeing the pictures of their ‘first look’—Lucky commented about this at the end of the post! I loved so many things about their wedding: It was a wedding at the beach and everybody got to take off their shoes; the groomsman gifts were customised and instead of names you could read things like “smart ass” or worse; the night ended up with a campfire on the beach and they had a rainbow cake. Also, everybody looked fantastic and yellow is definitely a nice color for a wedding. Of course, you cannot actually feel other people’s emotions throughout images without a great photographer being involved; this wedding was shot by Lakshal Perera (but you should call him Lucky), who we had the absolute pleasure to have at home for a few days a couple of months ago, and that I am now proud to call my friend. Enjoy.

The wedding took place on April 27, 2013, at Home Beach, on North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia. The reception was at Point Lookout Community Hall, North Stradbroke Island. From the bride:

We decided to invite quite a few friends to be part of our bridal party. We had a relaxed wedding, and they got to wear their own clothes (within a few guidelines), so there was no stressing over trying to wrangle people to fittings or finding a dress that matched different body shapes. Having our friends involved was a really fun part of the day.

Name one thing you regret…

One thing Rob regretted were his nerves leading up to the big day. He hates being the centre of attention and was really nervous, but we ended up having so much fun that he’d love to do it again!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

We chose to have a ‘first look’ and see each other before the ceremony. We were so glad we did, because it gave us a few special moments together, and we got to say our personal vows in private. It also helped with nerves!

The word of the photographer.

I loved everything about Rob and Alana. From the first time that I chatted to them on Skype to getting to know them better on Facebook in the time before their wedding, I really felt a connection with them. And being on Stradbroke Island the day before the wedding and spending some time with them just confirmed all of that. But it almost didn’t happen – I caught the ferry over to Stradbroke Island and Alana was supposed to come and pick me up from the terminal. I had messaged a bit earlier with which ferry I was going to be on but due to the remoteness of where they were, the phone reception was somewhat lacking and my messages didn’t get through. I didn’t know where exactly they were so jumped on a public bus and asked the driver whether he could help take me to where I needed. Thankfully he did and I made it in one piece! From the moment I arrived, Alana, Rob and all of their friends and family treated me with complete warmth and affection. I was one of them and I shared their wedding experience with them. It was a beautiful and touching wedding, filled with personal touches that Rob and Alana had spent countless hours preparing. And these two people were clearly absolutely devoted and committed to each other – they loved each other to the core. I was just lucky enough to be there to photograph it and these are the kinds of things that I live for.

One anecdote: During the first look, Alana started crying and nobody had tissues. I offered her a cloth from my bag which I use to clean my lenses without realising that it was covered in lens cleaner which irritated Alana’s eyes and made her tear up even more. Thankfully, Rob donated one of his socks to the cause!

Winter Hockey Themed Wedding

Summer’s finally here, so what, won’t you let me blog a winter hockey themed wedding? I love weddings that include some activity, I think it definitely adds something… so, hockey? Hell yeah! Also, I love the idea of a pre-wedding welcome party, has anyone of you had one? Photography by Julian Kanz, out of Italy.

Danielle and Tyler got married in February in Mont Tremblant, Québec. They love to travel and take any opportunity to enter a plane; no surprise they got engaged during one of their trips! Here’s their story.

In the beginning of 2012, Tyler’s parents planned a family trip for a month to Italy, and like we always do, we jumped on board. Prior to meeting them in Florence, we decided to spend a week on our own on a small romantic Island called ‘Ischia’ just off Naples and north of ‘Capri’. As soon as we arrived we went for dinner and watched the sun set over he ocean at a bar called ‘Antonio’s’. It was the best bruschetta we have ever had and we don’t say things like that very easily! After that we walked to the end of a pier and soon Tyler disappeared out of sight around the end of the pier where there was no more restaurants or people. He told me to come out there for the view of the island. When we were ready to turn back to the restaurants, he pulled on my arm and turned me around while he said ‘there is a reason that I brought you all the way out here.’ I was shocked to see him down on one knee and became so excited that I barely gave him time to ask me before I started saying ‘yes yes yes!

Name one thing you regret…

We should have purchased a cake from the local bakery.  Our cake collapsed during the 7 hour car ride from Toronto and had to be pieced back together in Mont Tremblant.  It was a huge headache and hassle to bring it from that far but it was absolutely delicious!!!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

Looking around the campfire at our welcome party holding a specialty hot coffee and watching all of our friends and family enjoy the skating and sleigh rides while the snow began falling in huge flakes. Best night of our lives.
