Mariana + Francisco

Brazilian Picnic Wedding with Mountain Bikes

When I saw the pictures of Mariana and Francisco with their bikes on their wedding day, I couldn’t resist! The wedding took place in São Paulo, Brazil, a (very) big city, but it didn’t stop this couple from having the wedding they wanted – a picnic with their guests after the ceremony in a public park and mountain bikes to join the place… How cool! After all, Francisco proposed to Mariana at the finish line of a 600km run, no surprise they did something crazy for their wedding too! The beautiful photos were taken by Frankie e Marília. I love them all totally fell for the magical couple pictures. Tell me your thoughts!

The wedding took place on October 2, 2013, at the Ibirapuera park, in São Paulo, Brazil. Here’s the story of this couple, from the bride.

Francisco and I knew each other from being co-workers. We started doing “adventure races” together (running, cycling, paddling and rappelling), that are for teams only. This is when we fell in love and started dating…

During the month of April of 2012, he participated in a race called “Ecomotion”, a 600 km long race that usually lasts from 5 to 7 days (with very little sleep time, depending on the team’s strategy). I wasn’t training enough to participate this time, so he only asked I’d be there for the very end of the race, when he’d arrive…

When he crossed the line he surprise-proposed to me! There’s a video (in Portuguese) here.

Name one thing you regret…

I can’t think of anything!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

That we did the civil ceremony by bike and had our wedding ceremony outdoors (in a park, a place that we both love). It was simple, our only guests were members of our families and the bridesmaids and groomsmen, but it was just what we needed to have our hearts filled with love. We’re happy we didn’t follow any pattern or pre-established rule… (Why would we at all need to get married in a closed room if we can have everything take place in a park with an officiant?)

Brazilian Country Rock’n Roll Wedding

Up for a little Brazilian country rock’n roll wedding today? The bride’s a designer herself and took care of the design and setting. You need to read the story of how they found the place where they got married! Photography by Nathan Thrall.

The wedding took place on May 15, 2013 at the Fazenda dos Quindins in Paty de Alferes, Brazil. Deborah found this place when she was actually looking for the quindim recipe on the internet!

We met two years ago in a “festa junina” (a typical brazilian party that happen in June, where everybody shows up dress up as a farmer). One year after, we were already living together and it didn’t take him more than a week after that to propose to me! A few months after, looking for the quindim recipe on the internet, a without even thinking about our wedding party, I found the place where we got married. During five months, we were in the middle of kraft paper that we used for the invites’ enveloppes, blue plaid laces, little DIY skirts for the little bridesmaids and homemade (mummy made) marmelade pots. It was an incredible party with a lot of love, thanks to one thousand familiar hands.

We didn’t have a specific song for our first dance. Also, I wish we had taken some pictures of Ramon and his groomsmen in their plaid shirts!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

That I took care of the planning and design myself, helped by our friends and families.

The word of the photographers.
Engaging messages & conversations via Facebook, we were already ready for what was going to be Deborah and Ramon’s wedding. Deborah, an interior designer, insisted in planning everything herself: she wanted a party at a farm, for the family and closest friends only. The place they chose, Paty do Alferes, in the seclusion of Brazil, made us expect one of the most special weddings we’d ever attended.
Everybody lent a hand that day; parents, relatives, and even my team and I, in then end, were involved in setting up the place. The dad was hanging up some details in the trees, the bridesmaid was taking care of the ceremony place and kept on asking my opinion, the bride couldn’t stand quiet for one second, not even for her make-up.
The homemade marmelade from the bride’s mother, the cachaça fountain leaving a light smell alcohol, the green fields of Paty do Alferes, the distant mountains, the perfect weather… all this combined with the happiness of one of the most jovial couple we know. Young in spirit, as jovial as kids, in love like teenagers discovering love for the very first time. This is how Deborah and Ramon got married.

Paper Wedding Anniversary Commemoration

I don’t know how the 1st year of marriage anniversary is called in your country? Here in France it’s cotton, but in Brazil, and I think in the US, it’s called paper wedding anniversary. Anyway, Lorena is Brazilian, she actually runs a wedding blog herself, and she and her husband just celebrated one year of wedding. For this occasion, they had a beautiful paper bowtie and bouquet, installed a quite special setting on the beach and had The Kreulichs photograph them. I am sure you remember this husband + wife photographer team? Junia and Licius are amongst the first photographers that were featured here, if not the very first ones (and please don’t miss their thought at the end of the post – it’s so sweet!), and Lorena is actually Junia’s sister. So this shoot was kind of a family thing, until today!

Lorena loves to celebrate – their first anniversary, this first year together as a married couple. She didn’t know how, the only thing she knew is that she wanted there to be paper and love!

They woke up at 5am this morning; through the windows a dark threatening sky… At first everybody went back to sleep, except for Lorena, who was too excited about wearing her dress again and having the photo shoot. It turned out, a few hours later, it still wasn’t raining and they decided to go outside. The weather was as threatening as it was on the day of their wedding, Lorena said, but Diego’s kisses were just what she needed to have her fear go away.

The word of the photographers.

The greatest challenge is not to get married, but to stay married.

To not let the love go away and take care of the smallest things is the real challenge. We had the great opportunity to be part of this commemoration, that can seem small—one year of marriage, paper wedding anniversary—but we think that taking the time to celebrate, big or small beginnings, is what makes the difference.

We would like to maintain every day, every year, this kind of commemoration. We feel like every couple should have this feeling as a rule, and who knows, maybe everything would end up stronger, more resistant.

Wedding anniversaries aren’t just a moment to have photos taken, it’s a time to renew vows. We believe that every detail they prepared for the photo shoot was a reflection of what they live in they day-to-day life, their preoccupation with small details in their house, in their lives, of the surprises and the attention they have for each other.

We are grateful to be living days like this one with couples that we learn from, inspire us in our personal & professional life, and give us the opportunity to know them and photograph them.
