When American Classic Meets the France of Yesteryear: French-American Wedding in France

I am very happy to feature this French-American wedding today for many reasons. One reason is that the photographer, Thierry, started as wedding photographer two years ago and his work definitely needs to be known – and if you appreciate it, please leave a comment, I am sure he’ll be very happy to read them. Second, when I first checked this wedding out on his blog, I realized I actually knew the groom! We met on a PhD students meeting in the South of France – the same meeting Marcio and I first got to know each other… Small world! But the main reason of course, is that I really like the atmosphere here: when the venue looks like it’s coming out of an old movie, maybe there’s just no need to add colored flags and balloons. The wedding took place July 27, 2013 next to Guérande, France. From the couple:

The wedding didn’t go exactly as planned, we got into an argument with the tent vendor the day before the wedding who threatened not to bring the equipment, there was a torrential downpour all morning  the day of the wedding and during the brunch the following day, at one point we had no priest to perform the ceremony, the groom had to switch jackets mid-cocktail with one of the groomsmen, but in the end all of these things were what made the wedding so memorable and exciting.

Name one thing you regret…

With the perspective, the joyous moments with friends and family are the most precious things at a wedding; They go so fast, we wish we had had more time to connect and chat with each guest.

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

We tried really hard to mix American and French traditions to make it a bi-cultural celebration, and the church celebration went really well.  Most of the service was in French, but we had some readings and songs in English, with American bridesmaids/groomsmen and we even sang “America the Beautiful”.

The word of the photographer.

Julia and Pierre… I met this French-American couple in a family house next to Guérande, a place that is very dear to Pierre who spent there his entire childhood. Bridesmaids from New-York, rain, magic atmosphere in this old house… Those are the few words that I would use to describe this sweet couple’s wedding, that I had the pleasure to photograph this Summer. It seemed like every room I discovered in this building was telling its own story and I am very happy I was the one who could write theirs.

Essie + Frank

Super Fun Dutch Windy Beach Wedding

There’s many things I love about weddings, but what touches me the most is to see people in love, and people having fun, because, that’s what it should be about, right? Essie and Frank had a simple beach wedding, but I love how much fun they seem to have had together. The wedding took place in the Netherlands, so that it’s not the typical turquoise water beach wedding; we can see there’s actually a lot of wind, which just gives a very special atmosphere! +1 for the 2 red balloons representing Essie’s missing sister and father! Photography by Jarg Woldhuis.

The wedding took place May 31th, 2013 in Texel, The Netherlands; the location is called Beach-In Paal 21.

Our first date was five years ago at the dance event Sensation White in Amsterdam. Like it is in the name “Sensation White” the dress code was completely white! We liked that so much we decided to use the same dress code on our wedding five years later…

The island is very special to the both of us; we have great memories of some special moments on the island. On the wedding we had to miss Essie’s sister and father and in memory of them we added two red balloons to our 50 white “Just Married” balloons. We let the two red balloons go at the same time at the land wash followed by the 50 white ones; which was very spectacular because of the strong wind!

Name one thing you regret…

After a long and hard thought about what to regret regarding our wedding… we decided there was nothing to really regret! Sure… Essie wasn’t on the bus that picked up all the wedding guests including me, the groom… So she missed a great bus drive around the island in a red English double decker bus. But in return she got that great entrance without anyone (including me!) seeing her before that moment! That moment was very very special and awesome!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

The first “todo” on our wedding-preparation-list was to get Jarg Woldhuis as our photographer. And we are very very proud on his pictures of our wedding! BANG!
We’re very proud on Essie’s 80 year old mom and the fact that she attended the wedding from the beginning until the late end. She didn’t want to miss a thing, and she didn’t!!
We are very happy we could realize our dream to get married on the beach with all our loved ones around us.
