DIY Aussie Rock’n Roll Themed Wedding

I love it when you guys are getting serious about organizing your wedding! Almost everything at this super amazing rock’n roll themed wedding was DIYed. Both families were deeply involved, not to mention their close friends (apparently, everybody had a defined role), and everybody did a damn good job! So, sorry, you will not find a vendor behind the amazing wedding cake they had, nor will you get a chance to buy the same dress or headpiece the bride was wearing. But don’t be frustrated, because you still get to see these photos and feel a bit like their guest today. Photography by Lakshal Perera – it’s always a pleasure!

The wedding took place on August 4, 2013 at Chateau Wyuna, Mt Evelyn, VIC, Australia. Here’s about this 100% perfect DIY wedding.

We were married at Chateau Wyuna in the Yarra Valley at 3pm! Such an amazing day and so great to share it with 140 of our family and friends :) It was so lovely how much everyone helped us with our wedding! We had such an amazing time and it was our happiest day ever! We both love music so much so I walked down the aisle to a String Trio playing Metallica – Nothing Else Matters, our bridal party entrance song was Mindsnare – Bulldozed, our first dance was Time Of My Life (Dirty Dancing), I threw the bouquet to NOFX – Linoleum, Coops took my garter off to Miles Away – Anywhere, our farewell song was Luca Brasi – Isaaac Bowen. Some Band To Write Home About played songs by Pennywise, Blue Line Medic, Millencolin, The Ataris, Gaslight Anthem, The Bouncing Souls, The Descendents and No Use For A Name.

Regarding the wedding, name one thing you regret…

We bought a birthday cake for our friends who were having birthdays on the day of the wedding but I accidentally left it in the fridge at home! We still got to sing happy birthday though so that was good!

The word of the photographer.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a couple walk in to their reception to a song by Mindsnare. And to be honest, I doubt I ever will again. The love that Scott and Tammy have for music is amazing; they don’t just love it, they LIVE it. And by live it, I mean they run and produce all the content for an amazing website called Chucking a Mosh. I must admit, I don’t like every artist they have featured on there (I’m getting a bit old for music that loud) but I really respect the time, effort and energy they put into it – every industry needs people who do things for other people simply because they love it. And this is a summary of these two people. Their passion and love and drive makes the world a better place, and the fact they’re committing the rest of their lives to each other is a pretty damn cool thing.

Australian Winter Wedding in the Countryside

Are you ready for a winter wedding? Let me reassure you, we’re talking about an Aussie Winter here, more or less what we must be experiencing in France right now I guess (where it’s still Summer…). Anyway, I love how natural the bride and groom are, and the simple yet unique retro setting and venue. Photography by Jessica of Brown Paper Parcel Photography.

The wedding took place on August 24th, 2013, at the Dean Mechanics Institute Hall, Dean, Victoria, Australia. From the bride:

We met six years ago working behind the bar of a Melbourne music venue and have spent the time since doing all sorts of fun things together, like travelling the world, renovating a house and making a baby. We thought it was about time to get hitched and what better place to do it than in a 120 year-old country hall in a no-pub town in rural Victoria, where nobody would tell us to be quiet but the sheep and cattle. After a week of persistent rain, the showers fled about noon and we were served up a glorious, overcast winter day, with a few sneaky peeks of sunshine to boot. The wedding was a hoot with the usual eating, drinking and dancing to the soundtrack of 50’s rhythm and blues, doo-wop and girl group sounds, before our favourite rock and roll horn-sectioned band, Dynamo, blasted out some tunes to get the dancefloor jiving, and really send us off into the night. Sweet times…

Name one thing you regret…

That Andy was too busy dancing and gossiping to make it to the dessert table.

… And one thing you’re really proud of / happy about.

That our daughter Henrietta was part of the ceremony and able to partywith us (until she ran out of steam – poor luv).

The word of the photographer.

It was a true delight sharing this special day with Ness and Andy. They are a wonderful, intelligent, down to earth, effortlessly stylish and easygoing couple who deserve every happiness that comes their way. Their wedding was held in one of my favourite parts of Victoria, surrounded by farmland, pine forests and gumtrees. It was through and through all things I love in a good wedding; a get-out-of-town vibe, simple, rustic food and decor, booze that doesn’t run out, bands and music that gets people up dancing and a crowd of welcoming, warm people.
And I do love a winter wedding dress.
