Mariana + Francisco

Brazilian Picnic Wedding with Mountain Bikes

When I saw the pictures of Mariana and Francisco with their bikes on their wedding day, I couldn’t resist! The wedding took place in São Paulo, Brazil, a (very) big city, but it didn’t stop this couple from having the wedding they wanted – a picnic with their guests after the ceremony in a public park and mountain bikes to join the place… How cool! After all, Francisco proposed to Mariana at the finish line of a 600km run, no surprise they did something crazy for their wedding too! The beautiful photos were taken by Frankie e Marília. I love them all totally fell for the magical couple pictures. Tell me your thoughts!

The wedding took place on October 2, 2013, at the Ibirapuera park, in São Paulo, Brazil. Here’s the story of this couple, from the bride.

Francisco and I knew each other from being co-workers. We started doing “adventure races” together (running, cycling, paddling and rappelling), that are for teams only. This is when we fell in love and started dating…

During the month of April of 2012, he participated in a race called “Ecomotion”, a 600 km long race that usually lasts from 5 to 7 days (with very little sleep time, depending on the team’s strategy). I wasn’t training enough to participate this time, so he only asked I’d be there for the very end of the race, when he’d arrive…

When he crossed the line he surprise-proposed to me! There’s a video (in Portuguese) here.

Name one thing you regret…

I can’t think of anything!

… And one thing you’re really happy about/ proud of.

That we did the civil ceremony by bike and had our wedding ceremony outdoors (in a park, a place that we both love). It was simple, our only guests were members of our families and the bridesmaids and groomsmen, but it was just what we needed to have our hearts filled with love. We’re happy we didn’t follow any pattern or pre-established rule… (Why would we at all need to get married in a closed room if we can have everything take place in a park with an officiant?)

Thaminne + Renato

Amazing Brazilian DIY Wedding

I have to say I was impressed by this wedding and couple: when I first read the bride’s story and I saw the list of vendors, I discovered the wedding was a DIY, and it’s hard to tell from the photos! So, congrats to Thaminne and Renato for planning their wedding and doing it so well. And of course, congrats to Frankie e Marília for these excellent photos.

Thaminne and Renato’s wedding took place in Guararema, a city located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. They had been dating for 9 years before they got married, which means they were high school lovers! They decided to see each other before the ceremony, which is something they would recommend to future brides and grooms:

We agreed we would meet in some place chosen by our photographers which happened to be the living room of the farm. It was one of the best moment of the whole preparation, away from the rush and the foolishness… it was like watching a movie of everything we already went through and it was awesome!

I wish we had done the ceremony earlier, have lunch instead of dinner, something like that.

… And one thing you’re really happy about / proud of.

Ah, we keep on talking about this: if there’s one think we’re really happy about, it’s our choice of photographers. I know we sound like creepers, but we were truly and sincerely happy both with the result and the persons we got to know. Another thing that makes us really happy is to have managed to gather our families and friends to set up the decor, buy the flowers, paint the vases – we all had a really good time!

Karin + Fred

Fun and Casual Brazilian Wedding With a Colorful Origami Paper Arch

I’m glad to share a colorful wedding filled with emotion today, that should cheer you up on this beginning of the week! Photography credit: brazilian duo Frankie e Marília. Oh, and Karin and Fred also have a band – you can check it out here.

Fred and Karin had known each other for six years, working together as journalists at the same place. After six years of being “just colleagues”, they started wondering: Why is it that we never dated? But then, just when they were ready to start something, it was already Christmas and both went back to their families. Karin spent New Year’s Eve at the beach… ignoring that some friends of her would give a complete stranger, Fred, a lift to join her and surprise her that very night! One year after, while walking back home after a night of samba, in the middle of the street, at dawn, Fred proposed to Karin.

The wedding took place in Embu das Artes (the exact place is called Espaço Galiileu), about half an hour away from São Paulo, Brazil.

Name one thing you regret…

I would say the choice of the DJ. We decided to go with a big and renowned firm, but it came out, they didn’t really understand the kind of music we wanted—and it’s not like we didn’t send a very long list of songs. We were lucky that some friends of ours took over on the desk – they rocked!

… And one thing you’re really happy about / proud of.

We’re happy to have stayed who we are. I’m glad we had all our DIY details, our friends and family helping us with the invitations, our decoration at the altar, the cookies. I’m also happy with the 500 origami paper birds that I folded one by one, and to have put some books on the tables as a decoration. I’m happy we discovered this samba band at carnival. I’m happy with the party and our photographers. Well, I could go on forever!
